A huge ‘thank you and congratulations’ to the hundreds of runners who have taken part in running events on behalf of Cancerbackup. We are always impressed with the enthusiasm and commitment shown by people who run for us - it really is wonderful to know that you support our work and want to help us to develop to meet the increasing demand for our services.
Team London City Airport
Daniel Townsend recently rallied his colleagues Barry Moore, Chris Milner, Daniel Swain and Natalie Llewelyn-Evans to form a team for Cancerbackup’s Fathers Day 10K helping to raise vital funds for Cancerbackup. Now the event is over they have decided to take part in an even bigger challenge.
Daniel and his team, Team LYC, aptly named as they all work at London City Airport have decided to embark on a marathon of running events over the next year in order to raise a staggering £10,000! Their journey will launch at the 2007 BUPA Great North Run In September 2007 and they will finally cross the finish line in October 2008 at the Great South Run.
You can sponsor Team LYC at www.justgiving.com/teamlondoncity and help them on the road to reaching their £10,000 target. To find out the latest on Team LYC visit http://teamlcy.gsdev.co.uk/
Mums on the Run
Congratulations to the team of mums that took part in the Pensford 10K on Sunday 22nd April 2007. The team of twenty mums all crossed the finish line after a tough uphill course. A big thank you to them all for their support to Cancerbackup!
David Hunt ran the 2006 ING New York Marathon in aid of Cancerbackup and raised a fantastic £1,000. David completed the gruelling 26 miles, in 02:48 hours ranking 311th out of 38,000 runners - And it was the first marathon he had ever raced in!
The aching muscles and blisters after completing the New York Marathon has not deterred David though, as he aims to beat his time in the 2007 London Marathon in April and also help to raise further sponsorship for Cancerbackup – Good Luck David!
Tracey Thompson
Tracey Thompson ran the Bedford Harriers Half Marathon for Cancerbackup in December 2005 and raised £101!
Jeff Broadhurst
Jeff Broadhurst ran the 2005 Great Manchester Run and raised £630 for Cancerbackup.
"I found the information provided by Cancerbackup to be very helpful. I therefore decided to raise funds for Cancerbackup for running the Great Manchester Run."
